Jordan 24 (2009) Resale Price Guide

The Air Jordan 2009 closed the original numbered Air Jordan line. Released in February 2009 under the new year-based branding, it was the first Jordan signature designed by Jason Mayden, who took the lead role from Tinker Hatfield for this release. The shift signaled a generational handoff inside Jordan Brand.

The retail launch came in two heights. The high-top featured a full side zipper that locked the foot in over the laces. A lower-cut Outdoor model dropped later that year for warm-weather wearers. Both used the same midsole platform.

Unlike the Jordan 3, 4, or 11, the 24 has not seen a wide retro reissue. Current pairs on the secondary market are original 2009 stock, which means availability is tight and condition varies. Deadstock pairs in original packaging carry a premium over worn examples.

Articulated Propulsion Technology. The Jordan 24 midsole evolved the Independent Podular Suspension (IPS) system introduced on the Jordan 23. Individual foam pods sit in the midsole and compress independently, letting different zones of the foot land and load without dragging the rest of the platform with them.

Stitched leather upper. The high-top uses tonal segmented leather panels stitched together rather than glued, which was unusual for the era. The construction is rigid out of the box and breaks in slowly. A side-mounted zipper runs alongside the laces, contributing to the locked-in fit.

Tinker-to-Mayden handoff. Tinker Hatfield consulted on the shape but Jason Mayden led the design. The Jordan 24 reads as a transitional shoe: still rooted in the technical performance language of the Jordan 22 and 23, but already showing the cleaner lines that would define later performance Jordans.

Most owners report the Jordan 24 fits true to size. Stay with your standard Jordan size unless you know you size up or down across the line.

Two caveats are worth knowing. First, the segmented leather panels do not flex as freely as a unit upper, so a wider foot can feel pinched across the forefoot during break-in. Second, the high-top zipper hugs the ankle when fully closed. If you have a higher instep, check seller photos before buying — the panels around the zipper do not stretch.

When buying secondhand, ask the seller about toe-box wear and zipper condition. The zipper is the most failure-prone part of the upper on the high-top version.
